I never thought in my wildest dreams I would ever want to raises GOATS! After a friend and I went down with the ostriches, he came over with the goat idea. Who would ever want to raise goats? Then when I saw the boer goats I fell in love with them at first sight. The back forty, so to say, has now been changed into a goat farm and boy has it been work. ..

The barn has now been built, and the fencing has a few more gates to install and we must decide to transplant the persimmon trees that I planted right in the middle of the pasture. I have also found that what ever you do and how much time and planning you do, it is never enough and it can always be changed and made better.

We started out with a solid red 100% buck, Red Rascal, who was a grandson of Texas Twister. Did he ever turned out to be one good-looking animal! He has produced some very good daughters that make up most of the does in the herd now. He has managed to pass the red gene on to his kids and we have a lot of solid reds and beautiful paints. When bred to blacks we also get the solid black and black and white paints.

So comes the name, Painted Boers. We strive to raise the reds and paints. But now we must look to the future and we plan to AI and do flushes with some of the best bucks of color that we can find. This is getting harder to do as the bucks out there are getting better and better.

Two years ago a doe that I had sold to my friend had a speckled doe kid. I do not consider her a poka-dot as some are doing, but this one is more camouflage in her color pattern. We sent her away to be flushed and hoped to get more like her, but they all turned out to be solid red except one that was traditional. Not the end of story, she had bred back the the buck, velaro, and when I got her home she produced two doe kids just like her, so not all was lost. We are saving one of her buck kids to use on some does and hope that he has the gene to pass on. We plan to flush her again and then flush the two little ones as soon as is possible to the T4 Red Neck buck. We hope to get some very beautiful kids and of course the one buck that we can use to produce a line of speckled full blood boar goats. Please check out her page and see her and the girls.

Since starting this project I have retired and find that I seem to have less time than ever. Please look at my site and don’t be afraid to call or e-mail me with your comments and ideas.
